Farewell to Wiring Hassles! Solar LoRaWAN Chloride Ion Sensor Enables Smarter Water Quality Monitoring

May 07 , 2026
With the intensification of industrialization and seawater intrusion, the concentration of chloride ions in water has become a key indicator for evaluating water quality safety. However, traditional monitoring devices rely on power supplies and wired connections, making them difficult to deploy in remote or outdoor off-grid scenarios, which poses major challenges for environmental protection authorities and industrial enterprises.

To address this pain point, ZONEWU has launched the LoRaWAN Solar Chloride Ion Sensor, an online water quality monitoring terminal specially designed for outdoor off-grid environments. Integrating photovoltaic power supply, ion selective measurement and LoRaWAN long-range communication, it delivers an intelligent monitoring experience featuring wiring-free, maintenance-free and ultra-long battery life.

  • Solar Power Supply, Worry-Free Endurance
Equipped with a 0.88W monocrystalline silicon solar panel and a 3400mAh lithium battery, the device boasts a battery life of over 3 years at the default 30-minute data reporting interval. It can operate stably for multiple consecutive cloudy days, truly achieving install and forget.
Note: The chloride ion sensor features relatively high power consumption. It is not recommended to set an overly short reporting interval.

  • High-Precision Measurement & Strong Anti-Interference
Adopting a chloride ion selective electrode and Pt1000 automatic temperature compensation technology, the default measurement range is 0–3500 mg/L (switchable to 35000 mg/L), with a maximum resolution of 0.1 mg/L and an accuracy of ±5% of the reading. It adapts to water temperatures of 0–50℃ and a pH range of 2–12, and offers excellent resistance to interfering ions such as S²⁻, I⁻ and Br⁻.
The electrode service life is about 1 year. Users can perform two-point calibration independently with simple operation.
  • LoRaWAN Wireless Transmission, Remote Controllable

It supports LoRaWAN 1.0.3 protocol with multi-band coverage including CN470/EU868/US915, defaulting to Class A mode (switchable to Class C). Uploaded data includes chloride ion concentration, water temperature and battery voltage (in hexadecimal format). Users can also send downlink commands to realize device restart, reporting interval adjustment, zero point/slope calibration and other operations.

  • Easy Installation & Rapid Deployment
The sensor shall be installed at an inclination of more than 15°. It comes standard with a 5-meter waterproof cable (customizable). Before use, the electrode needs to be soaked in deionized water for 10 minutes and activated in dilute chloride ion solution for 2 hours. For long-term storage, clean and dry the electrode then repack it in the original package.

Matched with a standard LoRaWAN gateway and cloud platform, users can remotely view real-time data and historical trends, greatly improving the efficiency of water quality supervision.

Summary

Whether for seawater intrusion early warning, industrial wastewater discharge monitoring, or surface water and drinking water safety assessment, ZONEWU’s LoRaWAN Solar Chloride Ion Sensor provides an efficient, stable and low-power solution. It enables water quality monitoring to move out of the laboratory and be widely applied in field and industrial sites.
